A Riftbound card with the same name and the same text can be a plain pack card, a foil, an alternate art, an overnumber or an artist-signed overnumber, and those sell for different amounts. The difference is printed on the card: in the collector number, in the rarity gem and on the art. This guide shows where each of those sits, how to read it, and what Card DB and Cardmarket call the result.

Where the card tells you what it is

Everything that identifies a Riftbound card is on the bottom line, under the text box.

The bottom line of two Riftbound cards with the set code, collector number, rarity gem and language code numbered 1 set code, 2 collector number, 3 rarity gem, 4 language code (Vendetta on).

  • Set code, bottom left: three letters. OGN is Origins, OGS Proving Grounds, SFD Spiritforged, UNL Unleashed, VEN Vendetta, RAD Radiance (released 23 October 2026).
  • Collector number, after the dot: usually three digits over the set's size, 066/298. A letter or an asterisk after the digits marks a special printing, described below. From Spiritforged on, a few cards print a letter code instead, with no set size: runes as R01 to R06 (their alternate arts R01a to R06a) and tokens as T01 and up. Vendetta's six specials print SP1/006 to SP6/006 and Radiance's five SP1/005 to SP5/005, a count of their own. Origins numbers its runes and tokens inside the set (007/298 Fury Rune, 271/298 Recruit), and its Buff token prints no number at all.
  • Rarity gem, centred on the frame line just above.
  • Language: from Vendetta on, the card adds its language after the number, VEN • 021/166 • EN. English Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed cards do not print a language; Origins cards in other languages do (OGN • 303a/298 • KR).

The artist credit and the coloured domain symbols on the right of the line do not identify a printing; read past them.

How Card DB writes the number

Card DB drops the leading zeros and keeps the set size: the card that prints 066/298 is OGN 66/298. A suffix never goes into the number. It becomes the printing's name instead, so 066a/298 is OGN 66/298 Ahri, Alluring Alt Art.

Rarity gems

The five rarity gems cropped from Origins cards, each labelled with its rarity Cropped from OGN 1, 15, 25, 37 and 66a.

Gem Rarity
Round, pearl white Common
Triangle, teal Uncommon
Square turned on its point, pink Rare
Pentagon, orange Epic
Hexagon, gold Showcase

The gold hexagon is on every alternate art, every overnumber and every Signature card, in Origins, Spiritforged, Unleashed, Vendetta and Radiance. It tells you the card is one of those three, or one of the SP specials, not which one; the collector number does that.

Card DB gives every gold-hexagon card the rarity Showcase. Riot's card gallery rates Unleashed's alternate arts and overnumbers by the card's ordinary rarity instead (UNL 022a is a Rare there), so a gallery rarity can disagree with Card DB on those cards.

To find a hexagon card in Card DB, look it up by its number, not by its rarity.

Which printing: read the number

One collector number can hold up to three cards in Card DB: OGN 126/298 Body Rune has a plain card, a Foil and an Alt Art. Cards numbered past the end of the set are different cards again. The number tells them apart:

Four collector numbers from Origins: 066, 066a, 299 and 299 with an asterisk The same line on OGN 66, OGN 66 Alt Art, OGN 299 and OGN 299 Signature.

Printed number What it is In Card DB
066/298 The card OGN 66/298 Ahri, Alluring
001/298, in foil A Common's or Uncommon's foil OGN 1/298 Blazing Scorcher Foil
066a/298 Alternate art OGN 66/298 Ahri, Alluring Alt Art
299/298 Overnumber, past the set size OGN 299/298 Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void
299*/298 Signature overnumber OGN 299/298 Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void Signature

Foil

A Foil is the same card, with the same art, in a foil finish. Card DB gives it the same number as the plain card, so the number does not separate them; the finish does.

  • Card DB lists a Foil printing for every numbered Common and Uncommon in Origins, Spiritforged, Unleashed and Vendetta.
  • The letter-coded runes (R01 to R06) and tokens (T01 and up) are the exception: Cardmarket prices them only as non-foil (no foil price in Spiritforged, Unleashed or Vendetta). Their alternate-art runes (R01a) carry only a foil price.
  • Rares and Epics have one row in Card DB, with no Foil to pick. Riot says of Origins' booster cards: "Every Rare and Epic will always be foil." On Cardmarket, Riftbound cards carry both a foil and a non-foil price, and Rares and Epics trade in both.
  • Proving Grounds has no foil printing.

Card DB shows a Foil with the base card's picture, so on a card page the two look identical. Pick the row by what you hold, not by the picture.

Alt Art: a letter a after the number

An alternate art keeps the number of the card it is based on and adds a: 066a/298. The name and abilities are the same, the art is different, and the gem is the gold hexagon. Some alt arts leave out the reminder text in brackets, so a shorter text box does not make it a different card. Riot describes Origins' alt arts as showing "the champion off in a different League skin, with a more intricate foil treatment, and a special hexagonal gem symbol".

OGN 66 Ahri, Alluring beside its alternate art OGN 66/298 Ahri, Alluring and its Alt Art, Card DB images.

Most alt arts are Champion Units. Origins also has alt-art basic Runes, such as OGN 126/298 Body Rune Alt Art, and Unleashed has alt-art monsters, such as UNL 147/219 Baron Nashor Alt Art. Card DB names every one of them Alt Art.

Overnumber: a number past the set size

Origins has 298 cards, so 299/298 is not a misprint. Riot: "Our Overnumbers appear as cards 299 and above." An overnumber is its own card with its own number and a hexagon gem, and Card DB lists it as a card of its own, with no variant name:

Set Set size Overnumbers
Origins 298 299 to 310
Spiritforged 221 222 to 251
Unleashed 219 220 to 238
Vendetta 166 167 to 197
Radiance 167 168 to 184

Proving Grounds has none.

Signature: an asterisk after the number

Some overnumbers also come signed: the same card with the artist's signature printed in foil across the art, and an asterisk after the number, 299*/298. Riot describes them as "emblazoned with a foil signature from the artist" and says roughly one in ten Overnumbers pulled is a Signature; that is a pull rate, not a count of cards.

OGN 299 Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void, plain and with the artist's signature OGN 299/298 and its Signature: the signature across the art and the * in the number. Card DB images.

Every Signature is the twin of an overnumber with the same number, and Card DB names it Signature: OGN 299/298 Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void Signature. In Origins every overnumber also exists signed, 12 of 12. Spiritforged signs 12 of its 30, Unleashed 12 of 19 and Vendetta 9 of 31. Radiance signs 15 of its 17: every overnumber except 177 Ekko and 184 Packed Amphitheater, read off Cardmarket's product images (Riot's gallery did not list Radiance's Signatures at release).

An overnumber can be a card from an earlier set

A later set can carry an overnumber of a card first printed in an earlier one. Riot announced that "some Spiritforged packs will also contain new Overnumbered Champ units for cards originally released in Origins". The name and the text match the original; the set code, the number, the art and the gem do not.

OGN 119 Ahri, Inquisitive beside its Spiritforged overnumber SFD 227 OGN 119/298 Ahri, Inquisitive and SFD 227/221 Ahri, Inquisitive, Card DB images.

The set code on the card decides. The Spiritforged Ahri is SFD 227/221 Ahri, Inquisitive, not the Origins card, and Cardmarket sells it as a different product. Other pairs in Card DB include OGN 28/298 and VEN 172/166 Draven, Showboat, and OGN 210/298 and UNL 225/219 Daring Poro.

One name can cover many cards. Ahri, Inquisitive is OGN 119/298, its Alt Art, SFD 227/221, its Signature, and a Vendetta SP special. The set code and the number decide which one you hold, never the name.

How Card DB names a card

A card's full name in Card DB is:

SET NUMBER Name Variant

  • OGN 66/298 Ahri, Alluring: the card, no variant.
  • OGN 1/298 Blazing Scorcher Foil: its Foil.
  • OGN 66/298 Ahri, Alluring Alt Art: the 066a alternate art.
  • OGN 299/298 Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void Signature: the 299* signature.
  • A letter code is written as printed, with no set size and no count: VEN R01 Fury Rune, VEN SP1 Kai'Sa, Survivor for the card that prints SP1/006.

The variant is one of Foil, Alt Art or Signature, or nothing. The rarity is never part of the name.

Champion names are written in full. A Champion Unit prints the champion large and a title under it, Ahri over ALLURING. The champion's whole name is kept: Master Yi over MEDITATIVE is Master Yi, Meditative, never Yi, Meditative. A Legend prints only its title large, Daughter of the Void, with the champion on the line above, LEGEND • KAI'SA. Card DB writes both as Champion, Title: Ahri, Alluring, Kai'Sa, Daughter of the Void. Cards that are not champions keep their one name: Blazing Scorcher, Daring Poro.

When typing a list into TCGrail, foil and holo both find the Foil, and alt finds the Alt Art.

How Cardmarket handles it

  • Foil is a box you tick, not a separate product. A Common or Uncommon and its Foil share one Cardmarket product.
  • Alt Art and Signature printings are separate products.
  • An overnumber has its own product, even when an earlier set holds a card of the same name.
  • Search by name. Cardmarket's Riftbound product names do not include the collector number, so a search finds every printing of a name; check the set and the picture before you list. The base card and its Alt Art, or an overnumber and its Signature, are listed under exactly the same name in the same expansion; only the product picture tells them apart.
  • Other languages sit in the English expansion. Cardmarket lists Korean and Simplified Chinese printings among the English ones, under the same English name: two Ahri, Nine-Tailed Fox products in Origins print 303a/298 • KR, and two Radiance Seraphine, Starry-Eyed Songstress products print 174a/167 • SC and 174a*/167 • SC. Read the language after the number on the product picture.
  • A product name can differ from the card in punctuation. The card prints Ziggs over SHORT-FUSED; Cardmarket names it Ziggs, Short Fused.

Language and region

  • Printed languages: Riftbound is printed in English and Simplified Chinese, and in French since 29 May 2026, starting with Origins.
  • On the card: Vendetta cards print the language after the number (EN). English Origins, Spiritforged and Unleashed cards do not print a language; read the card text.
  • In Card DB: the sets are the English printings.
  • On Cardmarket: language is an attribute you pick on the listing, and Cardmarket asks sellers to pick the right one, because a comment cannot override it.

Mistakes that cost money

  • An Alt Art listed as the plain card. Look for the a after the number and the hexagon gem.
  • A Signature listed as the plain overnumber. Look for the * and the signature across the art.
  • A Foil Common or Uncommon listed without the foil box ticked, or a plain one listed with it.
  • An overnumber reprint listed under the earlier set it came from. SFD 227 is not OGN 119.
  • A Chinese or Korean card listed as English. Pick the language on the listing.
