Two Lorcana cards with the same name can be a few cents apart or several thousand euros apart. Lorcana prints one character in several ways: plain, foil, Enchanted, Epic, Iconic, and a few one-off printings. The difference is on the card, in a line of small print at the bottom and in the rarity symbol beside it. This guide shows where to look and what Card DB and Cardmarket call each printing, so the card you list is the card you hold.

Where the card tells you what it is

Everything that identifies a Lorcana card is in the line of small print along the bottom edge. It is black on most cards and printed over the art on Iconic cards.

The bottom strip of a standard and an Enchanted card, with the collector number, language, set number and rarity symbol numbered 1 collector number over the set size, 2 language, 3 set number, 4 rarity symbol. Crops of Card DB card images.

  • Bottom left, under the artist's name, one line reads 1/204 • EN • 1:
  • the collector number, then the number of standard cards in the set after the slash;
  • the language the card is printed in, EN for English;
  • the set number: 1 is The First Chapter, 9 is Fabled.
  • Bottom centre, the rarity symbol.

The set is printed as a number, not a symbol or a code. Card DB uses that number as the set code, SET1 to SET13:

On the card Card DB Set Standard cards
1 SET1 The First Chapter 204
2 SET2 Rise of the Floodborn 204
3 SET3 Into the Inklands 204
4 SET4 Ursula's Return 204
5 SET5 Shimmering Skies 204
6 SET6 Azurite Sea 204
7 SET7 Archazia's Island 204
8 SET8 Reign of Jafar 204
9 SET9 Fabled 204
10 SET10 Whispers in the Well 204
11 SET11 Winterspell 204
12 SET12 Wilds Unknown 204
13 SET13 Attack of the Vine! 207

Attack of the Vine! is the one set whose cards print /207, not /204. Hyperia City, set 14, prints /204 again: its prerelease was on 16 October 2026 and its worldwide release is on 23 October 2026.

Fabled reprints many cards from earlier sets under the same name. The set number after EN decides which one you hold: Elsa - Spirit of Winter is 42/204 • EN • 1 in The First Chapter and 43/204 • EN • 9 in Fabled, Card DB lists them as SET1 42/204 and SET9 43/204, and Cardmarket files them in different expansions.

How Card DB writes the number

Card DB writes the number the way the card prints it, without the language and set number: the card printing 1/204 • EN • 1 is SET1 1/204.

Rarity symbols

Lorcana has eight rarities in Card DB. The symbol is the same shape on every card of that rarity, in every set.

The eight Lorcana rarity symbols, each cropped from a card and labelled with Card DB's rarity name Each symbol is cropped from a Card DB card image, from The First Chapter and Fabled.

Symbol Rarity
Grey circle Common
White open book Uncommon
Bronze triangle Rare
Silver diamond Super rare
Gold pentagon Legendary
Rainbow fan Epic
Rainbow hexagon with a dark diamond in the middle Enchanted
Rainbow polygon ring with a round hole Iconic

Epic, Enchanted and Iconic are the rarer printings numbered past the set size, described below.

Rarity is not the finish. The symbol says how common the card is in its set, not whether it is foil.

Foil

The foil in a booster pack can be any standard card, so the standard cards, numbers 1 to 204 (1 to 207 in Attack of the Vine!), come plain or in foil. The five exceptions are in Reign of Jafar, below. Card DB files the foil under the standard card's number; Cardmarket sells it on the standard card's product. The difference is the finish: tilt the card under a light and a foil shines.

Card DB lists the foil as its own row under the same number, with the variant Foil: SET1 1/204 Ariel - On Human Legs Foil. Card DB uses two variant names for Lorcana: Foil, and Rainbow Foil for the starter-deck printing below.

Rainbow Foil, from starter decks

Fabled's starter decks each hold two foil cards, the two characters on the box, in a rainbow foil pattern that booster packs do not carry. A booster can hold the same card only in the ordinary foil. The rainbow foil prints the standard card's number and artwork, so the number does not separate it: the finish does. The Amber and Sapphire deck holds Ariel - Singing Mermaid, 15/204 • EN • 9, and Mulan - Considerate Diplomat, 142/204 • EN • 9.

Cardmarket sells four rainbow foils in each of these sets:

Set Numbers
Fabled 15, 75, 110, 142
Whispers in the Well 20, 86, 156, 171
Wilds Unknown 20, 49, 85, 121
Hyperia City 57, 59, 155, 158

Cardmarket sells each one as a product of its own, under the standard card's name, and marks its picture "Rainbow Foil Version, Starter Deck Exclusive". Card DB lists it as its own row under the standard card's number, with the variant Rainbow Foil: SET9 15/204 Ariel - Singing Mermaid Rainbow Foil.

Numbers past the set size

A number higher than the set size is not a misprint. Lorcana numbers its rarest printings after the standard cards: 207/204 is a real card.

Three pairs: a standard card beside its Enchanted, Epic and Iconic printing Left to right: Hades, Rare and Enchanted; The Queen, Rare and Epic; Minnie Mouse, Super rare and Iconic. Card DB's images are digital renders: they show the number, the symbol and the artwork, not the frameless printing or the foil.

  • Enchanted: a standard card of the set redrawn as a full-art card with new artwork, in a foil Ravensburger calls Inkwash. Its gameplay is identical to the standard card's. Enchanted printings exist of cards of every rarity, Commons included.
  • Epic, from Fabled (set 9) on: a standard card with the same artwork, frameless and with a foil treatment.
  • Iconic, from Fabled on: two per set, each a standard card with new artwork, a foil pattern of lore stars and 3D hot stamping.

An Enchanted, Epic or Iconic card carries the same name as the standard card it reprints, so the name alone does not tell you which you hold. The number and the rarity symbol do.

Where each block sits:

Sets Epic Enchanted Iconic
The First Chapter, Rise of the Floodborn none 205 to 216 none
Into the Inklands to Reign of Jafar none 205 to 222 none
Fabled to Wilds Unknown, Hyperia City 205 to 222 223 to 240 241, 242
Attack of the Vine! 208 to 225 226 to 243 244, 245

Card DB lists these as their own cards at their own numbers, with the rarity Enchanted, Epic or Iconic and no variant: SET1 207/204 Elsa - Spirit of Winter. They are foil printings already, so they have no Foil row.

Numbers past the Enchanted cards

Several sets also print a handful of standard cards a second time, numbered after the Enchanted cards (after the Iconic cards, from Fabled on), with an ordinary rarity symbol. They are printed only in foil.

Yen Sid at 59 and at 223 in Ursula's Return, and Half Hexwell Crown at 65 and at 223 in Shimmering Skies SET4 59/204 and SET4 223/204 Yen Sid: the same artwork. SET5 65/204 and SET5 223/204 Half Hexwell Crown: new artwork by another artist. Card DB card images.

Set Numbers
Into the Inklands 223
Ursula's Return 223, 224, 225
Shimmering Skies 223
Archazia's Island 223, 224
Reign of Jafar 223, 224
Winterspell 243
Wilds Unknown 243
Attack of the Vine! 246, 247

Most keep the standard card's artwork; Half Hexwell Crown has new art. Some have a pale green text box, as Yen Sid does, but not all. Read the number: it is the reliable way to separate SET4 223/204 from SET4 59/204, and Card DB and Cardmarket list them as two different cards. Because they come only in foil, Card DB has no Foil row for them.

A card numbered 0

Fabled's Bruno Madrigal - Undetected Uncle prints 0/204. It is a real card with the Super rare symbol, and Card DB lists it as SET9 0/204 Bruno Madrigal - Undetected Uncle.

Numbers with a letter

Two sets give several cards one number and separate them with a letter.

Into the Inklands, Dalmatian Puppy. Card 4 comes in five artworks, each printing its letter: 4a/204 to 4e/204. There is no plain 4. Each artwork is its own card in Card DB, each with its own Foil row: SET3 4a/204 Dalmatian Puppy - Tail Wagger.

The five Dalmatian Puppy artworks of Into the Inklands, 4a to 4e SET3 4a to 4e: one card name, five artworks. Card DB card images.

Reign of Jafar, borderless foils. Louie, Dewey and Huey (1, 2, 3) and the crocodiles Nero and Brutus (65, 125) have no bordered foil. Their foil is a borderless printing: the border is removed where the cards meet, so the artwork runs from one card into the next. It prints the same number as the plain card, 1/204, with no letter. Card DB writes it with an f after the number: SET8 1f/204 Louie - One Cool Duck. A foil Louie is always 1f.

Reign of Jafar's Louie, Dewey and Huey foils side by side, their art running across, beside the plain Dewey SET8 1f, 2f and 3f side by side, then the plain SET8 2/204 Dewey with its full border. Card DB card images.

Because the number is the same, the tell is the edge: if the art carries on past where the frame should be, it is the f printing.

How Card DB names a card

A card's full name in Card DB is:

SET NUMBER Name - Version Variant

  • SET1 1/204 Ariel - On Human Legs: a standard card, no variant.
  • SET1 1/204 Ariel - On Human Legs Foil: its foil.
  • SET9 15/204 Ariel - Singing Mermaid Rainbow Foil: a starter-deck rainbow foil.
  • SET1 207/204 Elsa - Spirit of Winter: an Enchanted card, at its own number.
  • SET13 205/207 The Weedwhacker: a card with no version line.

The name is the card's two lines of title joined with a dash, character name first, then the smaller version line under it. The rarity is never part of the name.

The name is spelt as the card prints it, accents included: Félix Madrigal and Te Kā, and in Hyperia City Tía Victoria and Mamá Imelda. Card lists online do not always agree. Lorcast writes those two without their accents, and writes Russell - Finding Adventure as Russel and Merlin's Shop and Smithy - Magical Market as Magical Markey. TCGplayer drops the accents too. The card is the authority.

How Cardmarket handles it

  • Foil is not a separate product. A standard card and its foil share one Cardmarket product; a foil is listed on it as foil and sells in the product's foil prices. Card DB reads a Foil row's price from those foil prices.
  • Every other printing has its own product. Enchanted, Epic and Iconic cards, the cards numbered past the Enchanted cards, Reign of Jafar's f printings and each Dalmatian Puppy are separate products.
  • They share the standard card's name. In Cardmarket's catalogue, The First Chapter's Aladdin - Heroic Outlaw and its Enchanted printing are two products with the identical name. Cardmarket separates same-name products only by a version mark, (V.1), (V.2) and so on, which does not say which printing it is. Match the picture and the number on the product page to your card before you list.
  • Enchanted, Epic and Iconic cards, and the cards numbered past the Enchanted cards, sell as foil. Their sales are recorded in their product's foil prices.

Promo cards

A promo card prints its number over a promo code instead of the set size: 1/P2 • EN • 5. Where the rarity symbol would be, it has the promo symbol or, on the earliest promos, an event logo; those print the line in another order, 1 TFC • EN • 1/P1. A promo is not the set card it resembles. Cardmarket lists promos in their own promo expansions; its help centre writes one as Mickey Mouse - Brave Little Tailor (PR1), for Promos Year One.

Promos come in sets of their own. Lorcast lists Promo Sets 1 to 4, the D23 Collection, the Challenge promos, the Lorcana Challenge Year 3 promos, EPCOT Festival of the Arts, Curator's Collection: Heroines Edition and the cards of Illumineer's Quest: The Great Hunny Rescue.

Mistakes that cost money

  • An Enchanted, Epic or Iconic card listed on the standard card's Cardmarket product. The names are identical; check the number and the symbol.
  • A foil listed as a plain card, or a plain card listed as foil.
  • A starter-deck rainbow foil listed as the ordinary foil. Both carry the same number; check the pattern.
  • A card numbered past the Enchanted or Iconic cards (223 and up, or 243 and up) listed as the standard card, or the other way round. Read the number.
  • A foil Louie, Dewey, Huey, Nero or Brutus from Reign of Jafar listed as anything other than its f printing.
  • One Dalmatian Puppy artwork listed as another. Check the letter.
  • A Fabled reprint listed as the original set's card. Check the set number after EN.
  • A promo listed as the set card it resembles. Check for a promo code after the slash.
  • An Attack of the Vine! card typed as /204. That set prints /207.
